Williams Lineages Underway
This
section is for people to post the various Williams lineages they
are working on. This is an effort to publicize that brick wall
you may or may not be hitting in hopes of finding others who either
have information or are at the same wall. This section is now in a database and to make surfing the entries easier, I have set it up to display 15 lineages at a time. Simply use the next and previous buttons to navigate around!
And, as another improvement to the site, you can now add your own lineage to the list without having to email me directly! Simply visit the lineage submission form and follow the instructions! It's as easy as that!

My earliest proven Williams ancestor is Christopher Williams (b. prob circa 1755; died late 1800) who married Margaret White (b. about 1761; died 1851) in Anson County, NC in about 1787. Margaret was the eldest of four children of David White and wife Sarah Williams. David was a son of Joseph White, one of the first justices of the peace in Anson County, and wife Margaret Leath. Christopher and Margaret (White) Williams had nine children before he died in late 1800. Their children were Rachel, the firstborn in 1779-1780, Margaret, Elizabeth, Sarah, Easter, William, Joseph, Mary, and Bethany. Joseph (1794-1872) is my ancestor. Christopher and Margaret migrated to Wilkes County, GA in circa 1787, and most of the children were born there. Their part of Wilkes later became Warren County. After Christopher died, Margaret married neighbor Jeremiah Thrower, and they had one son Thomas Thrower. Joseph Williams married Jane M. (Jincy) Whatley in 1810, and they later moved to Bibb County, AL. All of their eight children were born in Alabama. Their son John Washington Williams (1828-1863) is my ancestor. John married Luanza Jane Willson, daughter of William Harris Willson and wife Luann Goodwin, and they had four children before he died in the Civil War. John and Luanza's fourth child, John Washington Williams, Jr (1863-1941), is my grandfather. John, Jr migrated to Union Parish, LA in about 1883 and married there Susan Rebecca Tucker, whose parents and grandparents had also come from Bibb County, AL. John and Susan's son John Clyde Williams (1901-1971), my father, married Malcolm Dee Harrison (1905-1999) in 1921. I was born August 17, 1937, the last of four children. I am searching for the parents of both my g-g-g-grandfather Christopher Williams and his mother-in-law and my g-g-g-g-grandmother Sarah Williams. My mother also has a Williams forebear, a Williamson Williams, in the Edgefield-Abbeville area of South Carolina. Thus, I'm looking for the ancestry of THREE Williams ancestors.

I am looking for information on my Williams family in Oneida Co NY. My Great Grandfather FRANK WILLIAMS was born somewhere near Rome in Oneida Co in 1834, to parents Slyvanus WILLIAMS and Frances COAN. I do not know if they were married in Wales before they came to the USA or in America.
I don't know when they came to America.
Frank joined the Army when he was 19 and joined for two terms to scout indians. He fought for the north in the Civil War and was in New York when his term finished in 1863.
He then came to Australia but returned to the USA with his family in 1872 for 12 years. He bought some land in California, I have these records and it says he was a native born in NY.
All the records above were in Franks obituary I have very little records from America as I can't find him anywhere.

WILLIAMS George - England and Australia
George Williams was born in England and in 1803 was appointed to act as Storekeeper at Port Dalrymple (now Launceston) in Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania), Australia. In 1812 his wife was residing with friends & relatives, Messrs Morris & Davies, in Tannery Long Lane in the borough of Southwark, London, England. In 1812 George was appointed as the Deputy Commissary of Stores at Port Dalrymple but fell in to disfavour and absconded to evade his creditors. He and the ex-Deputy Surveyor and Harbour Master at Port Dalrymple, Peter Mills, escaped from custody, with the assistance of Jacob Hackett Mountgarrett (appointed in 1803 as Surgeon at Norfolk Island & later that year at Van Diemen's Land), and became bushrangers in Tasmania. I would appreciate any information about George's English family.

My brick wall is trying to locate information on my grandfather and/or any relatives.
My great-grandfather's name was Ezekiel/Ezekial Williams. I believe he came from South Carolina. My grandfather's name was R. S. "Bob" Williams. He had at least four siblings, Walter, Aler,(possibly L.L.?), Albert, and a sister Docia/Doshi/Doshe/Doshia. I have been told "Doshe" married a Mr. Deaton/Eaton.
I know they lived near Guntown, MS in 1908 when Walter and Albert were teenagers. They have lived in Franklin county, Alabama. Possibly lived in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
I have a marriage certificate where R.S. Williams married my grandmother, Ethel (Ether) Cook in 1908 in Tupelo,Lee county,MS. R.S. "Bob" Williams and Ethel Cook-Williams had two sons, William Davis "Bill" Williams, ,(aka Bill Booker) born August 28,1907 and died April, 1980. James Curtis "J.C." "Curt" Williams, (my dad)(aka Curt Booker) born September 16,1909 and died april 1986(my dad). My grandparents separated before my dad was born and he never saw his dad.
I would appreciate any information anyone might have about this Williams family.

My brick wall is William Williams prob. born abt. 1720 who married a Miss Thomas. I have never been able to find the Miss Thomas, or confirm WHICH William Williams. He most likely lived in Isle of Wight, VA or Northampton, VA or possible in Halifax, NC. His son Elisha Williams lived in Halifax and subsequently in Franklin Co., NC and married Sarah Josey. Two of his sons attended college, one at Harvard and the other at Chapel Hill. All this is confirmed in a letter written by Elisha's grandson, Henry Philips Williams.
The line extends forwards in time to Josiah Wiliams who married Margaret Thomas Philps of Nashville, TN and then to his son Henry Philps Williams who married twice: Frances Brennan and then to Martha Ann "Nannie" Haskins. These later lines are very well confirmed with children and dates.
My husband, Nick Van Boddie Williams Jr. is in the DNA group #9 which we believe may be a group that emanates out of a John Wiliams who married Anne Whitley and/or Ann Moore.
I welcome any input and if you are in this DNA group 9, please contact me with your tree. Hopefully, eventually we'll be able to put this line together.
THANKS.
Gerri

My mother's birth mother was Madge Williams of Newport,TN. She was born around 1909 and died in the early 1990's. She was a teacher by trade and never married. I would like to trace my ancestory on my mother's side. Madge apparently came from a very large family. Any information anyone may have would be greatly apreciated.
Thank You,

The earliest known ancestor of my husband is William Greenberry Williams born abt. 1826 in Illinois. In Jul 1844 he married Crissy Bales/Bails in Effingham/Shelby County Illinois.
I find William G. on the 1850 Gibson County Illinois census, not found on the 1860 census, 1870 census he is on the Crawford County Arkansas census, on the 1880 census he is found on the Jones County Texas census. He died in 1883 in Palo Pinto County Texas. He states on these census records that his father is from North Carolina and mother from Illinois
His wife Crissy states on the 1900 census that she has had 11 children but only 4 are living. I know of these:
Levi b. Illinois
Franklin Alexander b. Illinois
William D. b. Illinois
Thadios b. Texas
Stephen Grant b. Texas
Sarah E. b. Texas
I have located the families of Levi, Franklin Alexander and Stephen Grant in Texas but no luck on William D., Thadios or Sarah. On the 1870 census there were 2 girls (other than Sarah who was born later), but they are all listed by initials. I would love to find the 1860 census, but have looked for years and even hired someone to find it and they failed also.
It is the father and mother of William Greenberry Williams that I am interested in finding. There is a Daniel and an Edward Williams on that 1850 Gibson County census that I suspect might be related to him but have no proof and can find no one who is related to those two.
